IELTS Writing Task 1: Learn to write a band 9 Formal letter

In this video, you’ll learn how to write a band 8 or 9 formal letter in your IELTS Writing Task 1. Starting from understanding ‘what is a formal letter’ to “How you can write a high scoring formal letter,’ this video will cover everything. To begin with, you must understand that there isn’t much difference between formal, informal or semi-formal letters. The strategy or the way you structure each letter remains the same, it’s just the vocabulary or your choice of words that differs. For instance, in an informal letter you’ll use the word “sorry”, whereas in a formal letter you would choose a more formal word, like ‘apologize’. A formal letter is written to someone you know in a formal way such as your boss or someone you don’t know or have never met such as some higher official of the bank you have an account with. Because you cannot be friendly and personal with someone you have a formal relationship with or someone you don’t know at all, the tone of the letter needs to be formal when you write letters to such people.
