About the video

This video of Vedic Math focuses on simple linear equations and their solutions using Vedic Math Sutras. The video is for students in class nine and above. In this video, we will be understanding some deviations in the meaning of the sutra Shunya Samyasaamuchhye. This is a case of thick disguise. The name of the sutra used is “Shunya Samyasaamuchhye” - शून्य साम्यसमुच्चये. It refers to the case when the numerators may or may not be 1 and the sum of denominators are also not equal. In such a case, we need to perform internal cross multiplication to check whether the sum is equal or not.

Example

Solve: { (3)/ (3x + 2) + (2)/(2x+1) } = {  (6)/(6x+1) + (1)/(x+1)  }

Answer:

Here, N1 = 3 N2 = 2 N3 = 6 N4 = 1 and,

D1 = 3x + 2 D2 = 2x + 1 D3 = 6x + 1 D4 = x + 1

Step 1: Apply cross multiplication on RHS,

  • N1 x D2 = 3 (2x+1) = 6x + 3
  • N2 x D1 = 2 (3x+2) = 6x + 4

Sum = 12x + 7

Step 2: Apply cross multiplication on LHS,

  • N3 x D4 = 6 (x+1) = 6x + 6
  •   N4 x D3= 1(6x+1) = 6x + 1

Sum = 12x + 7

  • Since, the sum obtained in both the cases is equal

Therefore, 12x + 7 = 0

12x = -7

Hence, x = -7/12

Stay tuned to know more about this sutra and its applications in simple linear equations in the coming videos of Vedic Math!
