Vedic Maths: Algebra Sunyam Sutra (Medium Disguise)
About the video
This video of Vedic Math focuses on simple linear equations and their solutions using Vedic Math Sutras. The video is for students in class nine and above. In this video, we will be understanding some deviations in the meaning of the sutra Shunya Samyasaamuchhye. This is a case of medium disguise. The name of the sutra used is “Shunya Samyasaamuchhye” - शून्य साम्यसमुच्चये. Here, ‘saamuchhye’ (समुच्चये) means total. According to this, It is called as medium disguise because one of the medium i.e. numerator or denominator changes. When there is an equation where there are quadratic/binomial terms, we have to remove those terms and make numerator = 1. Hence, divide the numerator by denominator to get 1.
Example
Solve: { (x-8)/ (x - 9) + (x-5)/(x-6) } = { (x-6)/(x-7) + (x-7)/(x-8) }
Answer:
1 + { (1)/ (x - 9) } + 1 + {(1)/(x-6) } = 1 + {(1)/(x-7)} + 1 + {(1)/(x-8)}
- Check the sum of denominators of RHS
(x - 9) + (x - 6) = 2x - 15
- Check the sum of denominators of LHS
(x - 7) + (x - 8) = 2x - 15
- Now, equate it to zero
2x - 15 = 0
2x = 15
Therefore, x = 15/2
