Vedic Maths: Urdhva Tiryagbhyam (Vertically Crosswise)
About the video
This method is known as the Crowing Gem of Vedic Maths because with its help we can multiply any number with any number in a single line. This method is for children of class 9 and above. In order to use this method, we need to follow some patterns, and if one can follow these patterns or logic, he/she can multiply any digit with any digit in a single line.
Let’s discuss the method. In this method or trick, consider the dots to represent a room and digits as people who want to visit that room. We will follow the mentioned conditions. If the persons or digits want to go to the last room, then it needs to approach sequentially i.e. R1, R2…Rn. No two people or digits can reach a single room together. Only 1 person can go to a room at a single time. It works on the basisn of First Come First Serve, i.e., FCFS. Note that, when multiplying bigger numbers, don’t bother about the steps. The basic need here is to understand the logic and concept, that is, which digit is to be multiplied by which digit to get the answer. To understand the concept more clearly, refer to the video. The method is explained in detail with demonstration.
