Vedic Maths: Digital Sum & Application

In this video of Vedic Maths, we will be learning about the concept of Digital Sum. Digital Sum refers to the sum of digits of a number until we get a single digit. This concept of vedic maths can be easily understood by students of class 9 and above. There are few points to remember while calculating the digital sum. These points are - in digital sum while adding, 9 is treated as 0 or it is ignored. Hence, if while adding we get a number 9 we actually consider it as 0. Moving forward, in a number if while adding, the final sum gets equal to 9, then in that case we don’t say that the sum is 0. Practically, it is not possible to get a sum equal to 0 when we add two numbers. Hence, in such a case, we say that the digital sum is equal to 9. Note that, digital sum is not valid to approximate values.

Now, the application of Digital Sum is as follows –

Checking the Answer

If the answer is equal to the digital sum of the numbers that we want to add, subtract, multiply or divide, we say that the answer can be correct or right. But, if the digital sum doesn’t match with the numbers then we can say that the answer is 100% wrong. We can also calculate percentages easily with the help of a trick, mentioned in the video.
