About the video

This video of Vedic Math focuses on simple linear equations and their solutions using Vedic Math Sutras. The video is for students in class nine and above. In this video, we will be understanding the fifth meaning of the sutra Shunya Samyasaamuchhye. The name of the sutra used is “Shunya Samyasaamuchhye” - शून्य साम्यसमुच्चये. Here, ‘saamuchhye’ (समुच्चये) means combination. If in an equation, the algebraic total has a numerical factor then remove that factor and then put the combination i.e. ‘saamuchhye’ (समुच्चये) as zero.

Example

Solve: { (4x+3)/ (8x + 11) } = {  (x + 3) /(17x+19)  }

Answer:

  • Check the sum of numerators

  4x + 3 + x + 3 = 5x + 6

  • Check the sum of denominators

8x + 11 + 17x + 19 = 25x + 30 = 5 (5x + 6)

Here, common factor = 5

  • Remove this common factor

5x + 6 = 0

  • Equate the sum to zero

5x + 6 = 0

5x = -6

Therefore, x = -6 /5

Stay tuned to know more about this sutra and its applications in simple linear equations in the coming videos of Vedic Math!
