What is the Base Method of Multiplication?

Multiplication of two bigger numbers might seem to be difficult or time consuming. But, in Vedic Maths the bigger the digits the more easy it is to calculate them. We will be taking numbers that are close to the base and not equal to the base. The method for all the bases remains the same. Here base means 10 and its level multiples such as 100, 1000, 10,000, and 1,00,000. 

How to use this method?

The method for all the bases remains the same. Hence, we start considering the base from 100 because base 10 would be very easy to discuss. Write the difference from the base to the right of both the multiplicand and the multiplier. Note that the difference should be written  along with the signs, that is, if above the base, write with a positive sign. If the number is below the base, write with a negative base. Multiply the numbers that you have written to the write of the multiplicand and multiplier respectively. Write down the answer obtained along with the sign. This will be the right part of your answer. To obtain the left part, perform the arithmetic crosswise i.e. if the difference is positive (i.e. greater than the base) then add it and if the difference is negative(i.e. Less than the base) then subtract it.
