About the article
Revision of Basic Concepts
This practice worksheet deals with the methods derived from Vedic Maths sutras that help in the calculation of the square of numbers that are close to 50 and 100. Let's revisit!
What is Square number?
When a number or integer (not a fraction) is multiplied by itself, the resultant is called a 'Square Number'. For example, 3 multiplied by 3 is equal to 3 x 3 or 32.
How to find the square of any number close to 50 and 100?
This method of calculating the square of any number close to 50 and 100 has been derived from Vedic Maths sutras. Let’s illustrate - say, if you want to find the square of 52, you need to first calculate the square of 50 and it will be 2500. As 52 is 02 more than number 50, you have to add 02 in the first 2 digits of 2500. So, it will be 25+02 = 27. Now, find the square of 02 and it will be 04. Put this 04 at the end of number 27 from step 2. So, the final answer will be 2704. Similarly, squares of numbers closer to 100 can be solved with similar steps.
