The growth of the internet has increased the threat of personal data theft, and there are opinions that a regulatory body should be formed to protect individuals from such breaches. I strongly believe governments should regulate the use of personal data to safeguard personal privacy and enforce responsible corporate behavior.

The need for stringent laws to protect citizens from the theft of their identity has become more urgent than ever. Without such enforcement, personal information can be collected and misused without the user's knowledge. This puts people at risk of identity theft, cyberstalking, and other serious violations of privacy. A recent example is the ‘Digital Arrest’ drama that unfolded in India, where individuals were harassed and made to part with their savings to escape fabricated legal threats. This happened because their personal information had been illegally collected  from various sources. 

Companies that hold sensitive information should be held more accountable for how they manage the confidentiality of individuals' data. If clear laws and penalties are in place, such companies are more likely to follow ethical practices. At present, personal data is easily accessible to anyone with the technical knowledge to extract it. As a result, such data is misused for personal gain. For example, several tech companies have been caught selling data to third parties, often leading to its manipulation for criminal activities. This kind of misuse must be stopped to create a safe and secure environment for the citizens of any country. 

In my view, government regulation of personal data is essential to protect users and ensure ethical corporate conduct. If implemented effectively, it will help build a safer and more trustworthy digital world for everyone.
