The role of teachers in a student's life is an extremely important one as they not only help them to learn the academic curriculum but also shape them into the beings that they will later become in their personal lives.
From an academic point of view, a student’s acquisition of knowledge and critical thinking skills is a direct result of how effectively the teacher has delivered the knowledge. If tailored to match individual learning styles, a teacher can create a safe space for students where they can confidently ask questions and clear their doubts. This helps the student become an active participant in studies. For example, a student who is unable to open up in the classroom because of his shy nature may find practical classes very exciting and may open up with the teacher about his findings. In this way, by understanding individual needs, a teacher can help bring out the best in every student.
Additionally, teachers can influence a student’s personal development too. If the teacher leads an ideal life, he/she can become a role model for the student who would then want to emulate the teacher’s life. For example, Bachendri Pal, a mountaineering legend, inspired her student Arunima Sinha to bounce back after a serious accident and later become the first Indian amputee to climb Mount Everest. Thus, a teacher's unwavering spirit can inspire a student to overcome challenges and embrace life with newfound confidence.
To conclude, teachers play a pivotal role in the lives of their students. They can help students come out of their shells in academics, by understanding their specific needs, and also help them in their personal development by inspiring the students with examples of their own lives.
