The increasing advent of the internet in the day-to-day life of human beings has not only affected the behaviour of people individually but also in groups to a very large extent. Due to the increased competition between the various developers of social networks like Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter, among others, the impacts that they have on human relations, and the mental and physical health of humans are contrasting.

On the positive side, the increased use of social networking sites has made communication among people and groups of people easier and more comfortable. At the same time, it has also added to the active participation of citizens of any country in various political discussions with an open mind on multiple platforms where they feel free to express their thoughts.  Additionally, the spread and circulation of such thoughts in a short time have also made the chances of acceptance or rejection minimal.

On the downside, the use of social media sites has been a responsible cause for eradicating the essence of interpersonal relations,  with no face-to-face interaction amongst even the closest of family members. This has also been the cause of various mental and physical health issues that have developed over recent times. Furthermore, studies have also proved the fact that the increased rate of violent behaviour and tendencies in young children is due to increased exposure to violent content especially video games that they can access on social media.

To conclude,   the use of social media has both positive and negative effects on interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships. If used wisely and sensibly any social media platform can prove to be an asset to humanity.

However, it can also lead to numerous harms if used carelessly.
