IELTS Reading: Why Paraphrasing is Important

In this video you’ll understand the importance of the Skill of Paraphrasing in the IELTS Reading Test. Paraphrasing is crucial in the Reading Test. Paraphrasing simply means to rephrase the question statement in your own words without changing the original meaning. Why should you develop the skill of paraphrasing? 1. To enhance your ability to understand the main idea and supporting details given in a passage/ a paragraph/ a question Now, to give you a little introduction of the Reading Test: In IELTS General Training Reading Test, there are 14 types of questions that you can be given. The test has 3 sections and you need to answer 40 questions in only one hour. 

These questions are always divided into different types of questions which you must complete. Each passage usually has about 3 or 4 different types of questions. You get different types of questions such as Matching headings, True False or Not given, Sentence completion questions, Multiple choice questions etc. The test is 60 minutes long. These texts are authentic and are taken from notices, advertisements, company handbooks, books, magazines and newspapers.
