IELTS Academic Writing Task 1: Pie Chart

How to describe an IELTS pie chart? In IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 you are required to write a short description based on the visual information that you are provided in the exam. The visual input can be in the form of a pie chart, bar, graph, map or a mix of them. Pie chart is part of a circle and often depicts percentages. Every question cannot be answered in the same manner. There are certain strategies and tips that one must follow. 

This video highlights those strategies and explains with the example of a real IELTS question. Some of the things that one can keep in mind are: Always highlight the largest and smallest proportions. If there are two pie charts in different time periods, then you must highlight the key changes/trends. Use pie chart language like accounts for/comprises of represents. Make sure that the Pie chart has accurate grammar. Describe the graph correctly. Make sure your answer is more than 150 words. Focus on the important information given in the Pie chart.
