PART 2
Describe an interesting discussion you had as part of your work or studies.
You should say:
- what the subject of the discussion was
- who you discussed the subject with
- what opinions were expressed
- and explain why you found the discussion interesting.
Let me share with you a time during my time in college when I participated in a group debate for a team project.
It happened during my freshman year of college. Since English was my major, my teacher gave me the task of putting together a group presentation on a subject I found interesting. I quickly made the decision to try the subject of musical genres. I want to conduct research on all genres of contemporary music and submit my findings to the class.
As soon as I had the idea, I turned to a few of my classmates who are also my closest friends and asked them if they shared my opinion. Fortunately, six of them immediately concurred. We held four sessions for the preparation process over the course of the next few days in a small cafe close to our school. He was so accustomed to being with them before that it goes without saying that such gatherings were enjoyable and full of laughter.
Numerous topics were raised and discussed during the sessions, including whether or not hip-hop should be included as one of the genres and whether or not Lady Gaga should be mentioned as a representative of contemporary pop culture. Even though there were a few little issues at first, everything went through with the six of us as effortlessly as a piece of cake. I guess talking them through honesty and reasoning is the most effective method to resolve all the disagreements.
Then the big day arrived, and our six members undoubtedly gave a flawless performance on stage in front of the rest of our students and our teacher. I don't know about the other men and women in my group, but I felt pretty happy with myself. During the planning process, there were some disagreements that required thoughtful answers, and I was able to successfully collaborate with others as a result. Additionally, this group presentation served as a glue to further cement our friendships. These individuals are still my closest friends, and we frequently get together to drink beer and reminisce about our earlier years in school.
PART 3
Why is it good to discuss problems with other people?
To find the most effective solution, I suppose, is the major motivation for sharing our personal problems with others. In spite of the fact that we are capable of solving our own difficulties, we occasionally act rashly while acting alone. Therefore, such choices may result in negative outcomes and occasionally even control a person's life. For instance, while selecting a life mate, we frequently let our feelings dictate the decision rather than our minds. This emotionally driven option, however, seems lovely until the aggressive, demeaning life partner emerges. We are likely to make a far better choice if we consult some reliable friends and family members. Therefore, it may be wise to get advice from someone before
Do you think that it's better to talk to friends and not family about problems?
No, I believe it is better to talk to our friends and families about our issues since the more people we talk to, the more likely it is that we will receive ideas and proposals for solutions. If I may add, though, family members appear to be the ones we spend the majority of our time with, thus it makes sense that they would feel a stronger emotional connection to us. And since they have a stronger emotional connection, family is likely to feel more sorry for us and our predicament than friends do. But once more, even though I have nothing against discussing issues with friends, we should also talk about them with our families.
Is it always a good idea to tell lots of people about a problem?
My modest opinion is that it is not always a good idea to inform many people about an issue. Not everyone possesses the knowledge, experience, or intellectual capacity necessary to comprehend the nature of our difficulties and then provide suitable answers. Finally, talking about our issues with many others consumes a lot of time and energy that could have been better spent coming up with answers on our own.
Which communication skills are most important when taking part in meetings with colleagues?
One of the most crucial communication skills when participating in meetings with coworkers should be the ability to explain everything in detail without growing frustrated or agitated. Additionally, one should be able to listen to the thoughts and points of view of others. Then, one should put out sufficient effort to convince the colleagues that the information being presented is pertinent to them. To create and win trust, one should also provide constructive criticism.
What are the possible effects of poor written communication skills at work?
I believe that having poor written communication abilities at work could have consequences. First, it will result in poor communication, which will cause messages to be misunderstood and decrease work productivity. Second, when coworkers get a poorly written email, they will have a negative opinion of the author as well. Thirdly, sending such an email will be a waste of time since it adds nothing to the work being done and requires the writer to rework it in accordance with the boss's instructions.
What do you think will be the future impact of technology on communication in the workplace?
In the future, technology will have a variety of effects on communication, some of which might involve nearly continual access to high management teams. It's also possible that every person in a firm will be able to watch in real time when one particular employee performs significant research that helps the business.
Working in a multinational organization where employees from various cultures and countries coexist would be easier to manage as technology facilitates communication by providing precise translation services. Finally, with the aid of technology, staff will be able to transform any kind of information into meaningful data.
