IELTS Speaking Task: Cue Card Question With Sample Answer on Weather (Part 2 and 3)

PART 2

Describe a day when you thought the weather was perfect.

You should say:

• where you were on this day
• what the weather was like on this day
• what you did during the day
• and explain why you thought the weather was perfect on this day.

Who doesn't enjoy pleasant weather? I believe that we all do, but naturally, we don't frequently have the chance to take advantage of the great or ideal weather. But now I want to write about a day that I believed had perfect weather.

Now, before I go to describe my version of a “perfect weather”, it is important to understand that different people have different ideas about “perfect” weather, depending on where one is born or grown-up. So, anyway, talking about a day when I thought the weather was just too excellent, I experienced such a perfect day about a few months ago when I was supposed to meet my pals on our college campus in the morning. We had plans to play cricket on the college playground after visiting a nearby park. I brought a jacket with me because the wind was cool the night before. 

Contrary to the previous several days, the sun shone brilliant and the sky was clean and blue. I discovered that my friends had already arrived on the college campus not long after I got there. Together we walked to the park and spent an hour there. 

The cool, soothing wind in the park was quite pleasant. My smartphone said that the temperature was 17 degrees Celsius when I checked it. The weather report indicated that this day will have moderate temperatures and be sunny. Though weather predictions sometimes turn out to be inaccurate, this was not the case on this day! The minor chance of fog that was predicted by the weather was also accurate, although not until after 11:00 p.m.

I spent most of the day outside, and the weather wasn't particularly chilly or hot. We seldom saw the sun during the past several weeks because it was so close to freezing outside. But the day I'm referring to had been unusually sunny, bright, with a clear blue sky and a light wind. This weather was precisely what everyone in our community could have wished for!

What types of weather do people in your country dislike most? Why is that?

In my nation, people detest storms, torrential downpours, protracted snowfalls, and excessive heat or cold. It is only natural that severe storms and weather conditions disrupt our daily routine, harm people and property, and cause us distress. We all therefore appreciate regular weather conditions while detesting extremes of cold or heat.

What jobs can be affected by different weather conditions? Why?

I believe that various weather conditions can have an impact on various jobs. If it rains a lot, it has an adverse effect on farmers and builders. For instance, those who work outside may not be able to do so effectively if it is raining. Two more occupations that are impacted by poor weather are pilots and ice cream vendors. When it comes to the first scenario, timetables are greatly impacted by rain, snow, and wind, but for the ice cream vendors, the amount of sales and the success of their entire operation depend on the season and weather.

Are there any important festivals in your country that celebrate a season or type of weather?

We actually have a lot of these celebrations, with 'Navroze' or 'New Day' being one of the most popular ones in India. On the spring equinox, a large number of people observe the Navroze event. It's a day to paint and clean our homes, put on new clothes (which youngsters adore doing), and hang roses and jasmine flowers from the roof and on the windows and doors. You will adore this event and find it fascinating how regularly occurring people celebrate the day if you ever get the chance to see it. We also observe the first days of Spring and Autumn every year, and each of these occasions has its unique charms and customs.

How important do you think it is for everyone to check what the next day’s weather will be? Why?

The ability to predict the weather is crucial because it allows individuals to dress appropriately. For instance, if it's supposed to rain, they'll dress in boots, a jacket, and, of course, bring an umbrella.

Additionally, it matters what mode of transportation they intend to take, such as if they wish to take a car, a bus, or walk to work. Last but not least, people should be aware of the weather if they have any kind of plans because bad weather can thwart their efforts. 

What is the best way to get accurate information about the weather?

The greatest approach to be informed about the weather, in my opinion, is to monitor the weather forecast on television or online. But since the internet might offer false information, we must be very careful and make sure the site we are accessing is trustworthy. Cross-referencing many TV networks and websites is another smart move to obtain more precise weather forecasts. 

How easy or difficult is it to predict the weather in your country? Why is that?

I think that because of technology development, weather forecasts in my country are now more accurate than they used to be. Today, meteorologists may analyze and generate weather forecasts using a variety of methods and mathematical trajectory systems. The best forecasts, on the other hand, take into consideration weather phenomena that are occurring throughout a large territory. Nevertheless, we must keep in mind that weather prediction is not always correct. This is why we can never have a weather forecast that is 100 percent correct, despite the use of satellite data, supercomputers, doppler radar, weather buoys, ships, and airplanes.
