IELTS Speaking Part 1 Names Question and Answers
1. Did your parents choose your name(s)?
My name was indeed chosen by my parents. My parents wanted me to have a great name when I was born, at least to them. My mother told me that before I was even born, my father brought a baby name book. So they alone deserve all the credit for my name.
2. How did your parents choose your name(s)?
I found out that I was named after a very famous Indian actress of the 1970s. As a result, they chose it for me. According to what I have been told, they had to select a name from hundreds of options and spent a lot of time doing so.
3. Is your name common or unusual in your country?
In my nation, the name [......] is actually quite popular. The sheer number of girls with the name [....] in this country will amaze you. However, in a way, I feel that this name is unique to me because my parents gave it to me and I will carry it with me throughout the rest of my life.
4. If you could change your name, would you? [Why/Why not?]
I value my name greatly and would never consider changing it. Everyone's name is very special and significant to them. To me, it's a straightforward but significant name. If you were to ask me if I would like to change my name to something else, I would say without a doubt that I would not.
5. Did your family have a certain (nick) name that they called you when you were a child?
I had been an extremely cheerful baby when I was born. My parents chose to call me ‘Smiley’ as a result, and that became my later moniker. I still feel uncomfortable when my parents use my nickname in front of my friends because it was such a strange name.
6. What do your friends call you?
Actually, it depends on the person and how close he/she is to me. My nickname is what most of my close friends choose to address me. Others only use my first name, though.
