Q. The maps show a road system as it is now and the proposed changes in the future to reduce the number of accidents.
Answer:
The given maps illustrate the existing road system as well as the proposed one, with changes intended to enhance road safety.
It is evident that the major changes proposed include a roundabout, installation of traffic lights and some restructuring of the existing roads.
The map of the existing roads clearly indicates that places where roads intersect are the major accident prone areas. To address this problem, it is proposed to install traffic lights at the intersection of City Road and Low Lane. In addition, construction of a roundabout is planned at the point where City Road and Forest Road cross each other. Moreover, City Road is likely to be straightened to reach the roundabout directly as opposed to the current structure where there is a sharp, right angle bend in the road at a specific point, before it reaches Forest Road.
The exit point on City road towards the supermarket is another hotspot for accidents. Hence, it is proposed to have a road leading from the roundabout itself, directly to the supermarket. Lastly, to avoid accidents at the junction where Low Lane meets Forest Road, there are plans to straighten Low Lane.
