Question: The line graph below shows the number of overseas visitors to the UK between 1989 and 2009 (in million visitors), by purpose of visit. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Answer:

The given line graph illustrates the number of people from other countries visiting the United Kingdom from 1989 to 2009. The values are measured in millions and describe their purpose of visit. 

On the whole, the maximum number of visitors visited the UK for a vacation. On the other hand, those visiting family and friends accounted for the least numbers. 

The number of people who visited the UK for a holiday remained almost constant from 1989 to 1997 [ 7.7 million approximately]. This number had reached a high of around 8.5  million by the year 2001. After observing a slight fall in 2003 to 8 million, there was a considerable increase in the number of tourists by 2009 [10 million approximately]. On the contrary, people visiting their families and friends remained quite stable from 1989 to 2001 [approximately 5.5 million]. After a dip in 2003, the numbers began to increase to touch 7.6 million in 2009. 

In comparison, the number of people who visited the UK for business fluctuated from 1989 to 1995 and then reached a high of 7 million in 2001. Subsequently,  the numbers increased steadily to reach almost 8 million in 2009.
