Question: The pie charts below show the main reasons for migration to/from the UK in 2007. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Answer:

The provided pie charts depict reasons for migration to and from the UK in 2007.

Overall, it is evident that while definite job opportunities were a major driving force for both immigration and emigration from the UK, education played a more significant role in attracting immigrants. Conversely, individuals leaving the UK were inclined to seek employment abroad, with a larger portion not specifying their reasons for emigration.

Notably, a significant proportion of both immigration and emigration, approximately 30%, was driven by definite job opportunities. Additionally, family reunification accounted for 15% of immigration and 13% of emigration motives. About 26% of immigrants were drawn to the UK for formal study, while only 4% of emigrants left the country for educational purposes abroad.

Interestingly, individuals leaving the UK to seek employment in other countries constituted a noteworthy 22% of emigration motives, whereas a slightly smaller share, 12%, migrated to the UK seeking employment. On the other hand, while 6% of immigrants did not specify their reasons for moving, a substantially higher percentage, 18% of emigrants left without a specified motive.
