This IELTS Speaking Part 1 question appeared on June 24, 2023 in India.

Part 1:

• Do you like ancient architecture?

Being an artistic person, I adore architectural pieces of the past. I believe they are full of creativity and give off an authentic vibe in modern times. As a matter of fact, I usually find myself reading about architectural structures of the bygone eras.

• Have you ever seen the old buildings in the city?

Definitely, I often visit many of the old buildings in my city. For instance, there is an old library just two blocks away from my apartment which I visit quite often. It is known to be one of the earliest libraries in the town.  

• Do you think we should preserve old buildings in cities?

Certainly, there is a dire need to preserve old buildings as in the current times, the government and private organizations plan on bringing old buildings down and working on new construction plans. I believe that old buildings are a piece of art and keep the historical element of a city or country alive. So we should do our best to preserve them.

• Do you prefer to live in a modern house or an old building?

When it comes to living situations, I would prefer to live in a modern house because of all the facilities it provides. Living in a modern house brings you many comforts such as smart connectivity, smoother applications, comfortable furniture, etc. Lastly, it undoubtedly offers a better standard of living.  

• Are there old buildings that you would like to see in the future? Why?

Well, I have heard about a museum which is present in my town which is a rather old building. A lot of people have recommended it to me saying that I should spend some time there as it is beautifully crafted and has a lot of artistic elements. Whenever I get some free time, I would love to visit this museum.
