Part 1(Interview)

Do you send text messages every day?

Yes, I do. The majority of my work is done online. So, I need to send innumerable messages the entire day. Sometimes I need to share important details, such as when I am about to complete an assignment or when I can take a class. Consequently, I need to share text messages throughout the day.

Who do you usually text the most?

The person with whom I need to share the maximum number of texts is my boss. I need to inform her of all the details of my work, such as whether I’ve achieved my target or not, or if I can work for one hour more or not. So, it's my boss to whom I need to send the maximum texts to keep her in the loop about my work.

Do you prefer texting or calling people?

It actually depends on the situation. At times, if I’m in the middle of a meeting, I find it convenient to text rather than call. However, if a situation is urgent and important, I generally call the person who can help me out. I need to explain in detail, so the call is necessary.

Have text messages changed communication habits?

Text messages have indeed brought about a massive change in the way people communicate nowadays. Earlier, people used to either meet or call up to wish or convey a message. However, now people have become habituated to just sending a brief text with an emoji for the same purposes. Thus, texts have lessened the warmth that existed earlier.

Do you think people will text more or less in the future?

People are prone to change. Now they’re more into texting, but in the future, if some other method of communication arises that is faster, cheaper, and more reliable, then I‘m sure that people will grab the opportunity willingly. So, I feel that their habits will change as per technological innovations.
