Question: The chart below compares the number of people per household* in the UK in 1981 and 2001. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant. 

Answers:

The given bar charts depict the comparison between different-sized households in the UK in 1981 and 2001. 

Overall, it is evident that the most common sized household in both the given years was the 2-person household, while the least common one was the 6-person household. Moreover, as the 1 and 2-person households increased, the proportion of all the other-sized households decreased. 

In 1981, 31% of the households were inhabited by only 2 residents, while 20% of the accommodations had 3 occupants. At 17% and 18% respectively, the proportion of 1 and 4-person households was almost the same. However, the 5 and 6-person accommodations were the least at just 8% and 6% respectively. 

By 2001, the proportion of 1 and 2-person households had risen to 26% and 34% respectively. On the contrary, the households with 3 and 4 people had decreased marginally to 17% and 15% respectively. Lastly, the 5 and 6-person households dropped only slightly, to 6% and 2 % respectively.
