IELTS Advantage Disadvantage Essay on Business Sample Answer

In the IELTS exam, an Advantage Disadvantage Essay can come in two ways - without opinion and with opinion. When it comes with an opinion, you are asked to write the advantages and disadvantages. When you have to give your opinion, you are asked  whether, according to you, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

In the past employees worked for small businesses, but now many are working for large businesses. 

What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?

Answer:

Earlier, while seeking employment, people preferred to work for companies that were relatively small, while nowadays, the trend has changed as most of the people exhibit an inclination for employment  in big organisations. This shift has both benefits and drawbacks.

A job in a multinational company or corporation has various positive aspects.It not only offers a plethora of opportunities, but also raises one’s circle of interaction as one gets the chance to work across regions and interact with people who belong to different cultures and backgrounds. For example, Citibank India gives its employees the opportunity to work in different parts of the country, and after working for three to five years one gets the option to apply in its overseas branches.

However, working in a big organisation has its downside too. One of the major drawbacks of working in a large organisation is the limited growth trajectory. Since the role is within the scope of one’s experience, one does not get the opportunity to work across departments. Furthermore, because of job stability, higher job opportunities within the same company are fewer. To exemplify, most of the employees of the multinationals change their companies to move up in the hierarchy.

To conclude, there has been a noticeable change during the past few years, and the current trend of giving priority to the employment in big companies as compared to the smaller ones has both benefits and drawbacks. One must understand the work culture well before taking a decision to work in a multinational or a small company.

Conversely, the job in a multinational company or corporation has various positive aspects. It not only offers a plethora of opportunities but also raises one’s circle of interaction as one gets the chance to work across regions and interact with people who belong to different cultures and backgrounds. For example, Citibank India gives its employees the opportunity to work in different parts of the country and after working for three to five years gives one the option to apply in its overseas branches.

Also, the higher pay package affords one the chance to have a better lifestyle. Furthermore, one gets additional perks such as extra bonus, annual vacation and medical allowance. For instance, the employees of bigger companies are able to buy the best of cars and other gadgets without bothering much about the price tag.

To conclude, there has been a noticeable change during the past few years in the preference shown by the employees for bigger companies. Although there are both benefits and drawbacks of working in huge organisations, I believe that the positives outweigh the negatives.
