Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a happy event in your life. You should say:

What the event was

When it happened

Why it was memorable and made you happy

And explain how you felt during and after the event.

One of the happiest events in my life was my wedding day, a moment that was nothing short of magical. It took place a couple of years ago, on a beautiful evening surrounded by our loved ones. Even though weddings can be nerve-wracking, mine was a perfect blend of joy, laughter, and cherished memories that will stay etched in my heart forever.

The reason this event holds a special place in my heart is that it marked a new chapter in my life. Marrying the love of my life, with whom I share an unbreakable bond, was a dream come true. The ceremony was beautifully orchestrated, and everything, from the décor to the heartfelt vows, made the day feel like something straight out of a fairytale. Additionally, the presence of friends and family, their blessings, and their heartfelt wishes made the occasion even more extraordinary.

During the event, I felt a whirlwind of emotions—excitement, happiness, and a touch of nervousness. Walking down the aisle, seeing my husband waiting with a beaming smile, and exchanging vows felt surreal. It was a moment when time seemed to stand still, and I was on cloud nine. Even after the event, the sheer joy and warmth from the celebration lingered, making me feel truly blessed.

In hindsight, this day was not just about the grandeur of the ceremony but about the deep love and commitment that my husband and I promised each other. It was, without a doubt, one for the books, a day that will forever remain the highlight of my life.

Part 3 (Discussion)

What do you think makes people happy?
Happiness is a subjective emotion, and different things bring joy to different people. For some, strong relationships and emotional connections are the key to happiness, while others find joy in achieving personal or professional goals. Additionally, engaging in hobbies, travelling, and spending time with loved ones can contribute to a fulfilling life. However, it is important to note that happiness is not solely dependent on external factors; a positive mindset and gratitude also play a crucial role. Ultimately, true happiness comes from a balance of emotional, mental, and physical well-being rather than material possessions alone.

Is there a difference between short-term and long-term happiness?
Yes, there is a clear distinction between short-term and long-term happiness. Short-term happiness often stems from instant gratification, such as enjoying a delicious meal, watching a movie, or receiving a gift. While these moments bring joy, the feeling is often fleeting. On the other hand, long-term happiness is built over time and is associated with deeper life aspects such as personal growth, strong relationships, and a sense of purpose. For instance, pursuing a meaningful career, maintaining good health, or achieving life goals contributes to lasting happiness. Therefore, while short-term happiness provides temporary pleasure, long-term happiness creates a sense of fulfilment and inner peace.

Do you believe money can bring happiness in life? Why or why not?
To some extent, money can contribute to happiness because it provides financial security, comfort, and access to opportunities. Having enough money to meet basic needs, travel, and enjoy leisure activities can undoubtedly enhance one's quality of life. However, beyond a certain point, wealth does not guarantee true happiness. Many wealthy individuals still experience stress, loneliness, and dissatisfaction, proving that happiness is more than just material wealth. In essence, while money can provide temporary pleasure, genuine happiness comes from emotional well-being, strong relationships, and a sense of purpose.

How do people's sources of happiness change as they grow older?
People’s sources of happiness evolve as they progress through different stages of life. In childhood, happiness is often derived from play, toys, and parental affection. As people enter adulthood, priorities shift towards career success, relationships, and financial stability. Over time, as individuals age, happiness tends to come from meaningful experiences, health, and family bonds rather than material achievements. For example, older individuals may find more joy in spending time with grandchildren or pursuing hobbies rather than chasing career goals. In short, as people mature, their definition of happiness becomes more centered on emotional fulfillment and inner peace rather than external achievements.

Do you think technology has affected people's ability to be happy?
Technology has had both positive and negative effects on happiness. On the one hand, it has made life more convenient by improving communication, entertainment, and access to information. Social media and messaging apps help people stay connected with loved ones, even across long distances. However, excessive use of technology has also led to issues such as social isolation, addiction, and unrealistic comparisons. Many people spend hours on their screens, often neglecting real-life interactions, which can negatively impact their mental well-being. Therefore, while technology can enhance happiness when used wisely, over-reliance on it can reduce the quality of real-life experiences.

Can a person still be happy even if they face challenges in life?
Absolutely! Happiness does not mean the absence of difficulties but rather the ability to find joy despite challenges. People who cultivate a positive mindset, resilience, and gratitude tend to handle hardships better. For instance, individuals who face setbacks in their careers or personal lives often find strength through support systems, personal growth, and self-reflection. Additionally, difficult experiences can sometimes lead to greater wisdom and emotional strength, making people appreciate life even more. Ultimately, happiness is a choice, and those who focus on hope, solutions, and inner peace can maintain a sense of joy even in tough times.
