Question: Some believe that the government should set up free libraries in every city. While others think it is a waste of money as people can access the internet at home for information. Discuss both perspectives and give your opinion.
Answer:
It is thought by some that authorities ought to invest in establishing libraries that are free of charge in each city; however, others argue that it is a misuse of funds because the internet acts as a repository of various resources. In my opinion, libraries have become redundant in modern times, and therefore, they should not be invested in.
On the one hand, some believe that setting up libraries in every city could prove to be beneficial for students who are living away from their hometowns. These students usually share an accommodation with their counterparts, resulting in a lack of privacy and a calm atmosphere to study. Thus, the presence of a library in their vicinity could be a boon for them. For instance, it has generally been observed that in places like Delhi, libraries are brimming with students who have moved to the city from other places just to study.
On the other hand, others think it is absolutely essential to spend money on such a facility since the Internet can provide access to the same data that a library would have. Almost every resource can be found if one surfs the right websites judiciously, not to mention that most of these resources are free. For instance, there are many applications, such as Playbook which provide free ebooks.
Additionally, I believe that the funds which are required to establish a library can be better spent elsewhere. For example, it would be wiser to set up more schools and colleges so that education can be imparted seamlessly.
To conclude, while some believe that all cities should have free libraries, I am of the notion that it is not necessary to allocate funds to this facility, given the easy access to resources on the internet.
