Part 2:
Talk about a person who likes to grow plants. Please tell me
- Who is the person?
- How do you know the person?
- What type of plants does he/she grow?
- Why does he/she enjoy growing plants?
I have known my grandmother to be an avid lover of plants. She is my maternal granny and I have known her since my childhood.
Since my grandfather had a transferable job, I have always seen her creating her kitchen garden wherever she went and therefore she has a terrace garden at her house even now. She is passionate about growing a variety of plants, including flowers, herbs, and vegetables. Her garden is a vibrant mix of colors, scents, and flavours.
She grows her vegetables like radish, cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, and so on and loves to treat her guests as well with such organic produce. Also, she grows a variety of herbs like basil and mint and produces them for her friends and other relatives. Not only this, she also grows some of her favourite flowers like roses, lilies, marigolds, and so on. I have always seen her being over the moon while gardening.
Grandma is committed to sustainable living practices. Growing her herbs and vegetables not only allows her to enjoy fresh and organic produce but also contributes to reducing her ecological footprint. Her garden looks vibrant and is so full of colours. Not only this, those who visit her also love to be treated in her natural abode and they appreciate the efforts that she puts into gardening. People are amazed to see her enthusiasm and love for plants as she spends hours with them and treats them like her own children.
Lastly, she finds solace and joy in being close to nature. Tending to her garden allows her to connect with the natural world, providing a sense of tranquillity and balance in her life.
Part 3
- What plants do people like to grow at home?
People grow a wide variety of plants at home, depending on factors such as personal preferences, climate, available space, and gardening expertise. Flowering plants such as roses and lilies are a few favourites. Similarly, fruits like strawberries are grown. The aloe vera plant which is known for its medicinal properties is also grown by people widely. Vegetables such as carrots, cabbages, cauliflower, brinjal, tomatoes, and coriander are also widely cultivated.
- Do people in India like to give plants?
Yes, these days people have started gifting plants as they hold cultural significance. Plants signify good luck and prosperity and also spread positive energy. Additionally, they also become customised gifts for people who love plants or nature. For instance, I was recently invited to a birthday party in which I got a plant as a return gift and I was truly elated to receive it.
- Are many people now growing their vegetables?
Yes, there has been a notable increase in the number of people cultivating their vegetables in recent years. There is a growing awareness of the importance of fresh and organic produce for overall health and well-being. Many individuals are opting to grow their vegetables to have a direct source of nutritious and pesticide-free food. Concerns about the environmental impact of traditional agriculture, including transportation and packaging, have led people to embrace sustainable practices. Growing vegetables at home reduces the carbon footprint associated with food production and distribution.
- Do you think it's good to let kids learn to plant?
Yes, encouraging children to learn about planting and gardening can be highly beneficial for their overall development. Gardening provides hands-on learning opportunities for the young ones. They can learn about plant life cycles, the importance of soil and sunlight, and the interdependence of living organisms in an ecosystem. Gardening allows them to observe and understand scientific concepts such as germination, photosynthesis, and the water cycle. These experiences contribute to a practical understanding of biology and ecology. Caring for plants requires consistent effort and patience and thus they learn responsibility as they take on tasks like watering, weeding, and ensuring the proper care of their plants. Meanwhile, they also feel a close connection to nature.
