Question: The bar chart gives information about the life expectancy in Japan, Korea, the United States, and Indonesia and the table shows the change in life expectancy between 1953 and 2008. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant. 

Answer:

The provided bar chart and table illustrate a comparison of life expectancy among four countries in 2008 and also offer insight into the changes in life expectancy between 1958 and 2008 across these nations.

It is apparent from the data that Japan recorded the highest life expectancy, while Indonesia reported the lowest figure. Notably, Indonesia experienced the most significant increase in life expectancy compared to other countries.

To begin with, it is evident from the data of 2008 that Japan had the highest life expectancy of nearly 82 years. In contrast, Indonesia recorded the lowest life expectancy of 70 years. Comparatively, the life expectancy of South Korea and the USA  differed by just 2 years, at approximately 79 and 77 years respectively.

While analyzing the changes from 1958 to 2008, it is seen that Indonesia stood out with a remarkable rise in life expectancy of 15.7 years. Similarly, South Korea's life expectancy experienced a considerable increase of 12.5 years. The growth in life expectancy was more modest in the USA, where the figure rose by only 3 years. In comparison, Japan's increase in life expectancy was slightly higher than that of the USA, with a marginal difference of 0.5 years.
