Question: Write a letter to your manager to apologise for missing the project deadline

You have recently missed a project deadline which resulted in your company losing an important client. Write a letter to your manager. In your letter:

  • Apologies for what happened
  • Explain why you missed the deadline
  • Tell him/her how you will avoid this situation in future.

Answer:

Dear Ms. Roy,

I am writing to express my apologies  for failing to deliver the project on time, which resulted  in termination of the contract by our client, Mr. John Parkinson. I take full responsibility for my actions and the consequent impact on our Company's reputation.

I realise that I should have informed you earlier about the challenges I was facing in completing the project on time. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen personal circumstances, I had to take time off, which significantly affected my ability to deliver the work within the given timeframe. Despite my best efforts to catch up on the lost time, I was unable to meet the deadline.

I assure you that I will continue to work on honing my time-management abilities and ensure timely communication with the team and you, about any emergencies that are likely to impact my work. I will  also make sure to keep you informed of any foreseeable difficulties. I seek your help and support to regain the clients' trust and business.

Please accept my sincere apologies.

Yours sincerely,

Jake Marvin
