Question: Process of making cherry jam. 

Answer:

The given diagram illustrates the process of cherry jam production.

Overall, it is seen that there are nine steps in the process of manufacturing jam from cherries, which begins with the procurement of the raw material [cherries] and ends with the production of the finished goods [bottled cherry jam].

First, ripe cherries are collected from the cherry tree by shaking it so that they fall onto a sheet spread under the tree.  They are then transported to the manufacturing unit in a truck where the first step is to separate the leaves and the stems from the cherries. Thereafter, the cherries are thoroughly washed with water and then pitted using metal spikes.  

Next, other ingredients, namely, lemon juice, sugar and pectin are added to the cherries and the mixture is cooked till the jam is ready.  The jam is then subjected to a quality control check. The batches of cherry jam which get a go-ahead from the quality control officer are then poured into jars which are labelled thereafter and the cherry jam is finally ready for sale.
