Introduction:

Asma, a 28-year-old with a B.Tech in Computer Science, is currently working as an intern in the digital marketing field.

Identifying Challenges: Lacks Clarity in Speech, Grammar and Mother Tongue Influence

Asma recognized that her weak areas in English communication were grammar and a lack of clarity in the basics. Having started learning English after high school, she needed to strengthen her foundational understanding of the language.

Discovering Yuno Learning:

Asma discovered Yuno Learning through the Soft Skills Bootcamp for the Digital Marketing Placement Guarantee Program offered by Upgrad. Recognizing the program’s potential, she enrolled in weekend classes that spanned 23 weeks.

Initial Assessment: Problem expressing herself in grammatically correct sentences

During the pre-diagnostic test conducted by her instructor, Reena Nagpal, it was observed that Asma was a confident speaker. However, she needed to work on grammar and had some confusion regarding the usage of past and present tenses. While she was able to express herself better in writing with fewer mistakes, she felt less comfortable when speaking. Asma also faced challenges with Mother Tongue Influence (MTI) affecting her pronunciation.

Yuno Learning’s Live Class Strategy:

Yuno Learning’s Live classes aimed to equip students with fluent, persuasive, and coherent communication skills for interviews.

  • Skill based curriculum: The curriculum emphasized essential skills such as grammar, sentence formation, pronunciation, voice modulation, and building confidence to speak in front of an audience.
  • Personalised Live Classes: The classes covered various aspects like introducing oneself, answering difficult questions, and negotiating persuasively and assertively. From overcoming fear to effective writing, crafting professional email responses, logical thinking, data presentation, and more, the classes focused on developing Asma for a successful career.
  • Speaking in front of the class: During these sessions, Asma actively participated, taking turns to speak on assigned topics, engage in impromptu discussions, and deliver short presentations. This hands-on experience allowed her to overcome any hesitation or fear associated with speaking in front of others.
  • Instructor feedback: With each passing class her progress was tracked, along with it a detailed feedback was given after completion of each month. The feedback provided by her instructor facilitated progress and development significantly contributing to improvement in her communication skills.

Results: Feels confident while expressing herself in interviews

Asma feels more confident in her English communication abilities and highlighted the interview techniques taught in the course as particularly helpful. Although she is still seeking job opportunities, she believes that she has made progress in interview delivery. Asma shared that her family members and colleagues have noticed positive differences in her communication skills.

Feedback: Professional environment with high quality teaching

Asma found the course to be highly useful, offering valuable content and skills. The classes were well-maintained, with attendance properly managed, and a professional classroom atmosphere. Her instructor, Reena Nagpal, demonstrated a solid understanding of the subject matter and effectively communicated the concepts. Asma found the teaching to be of high quality, benefiting her learning experience.
