Build Your Vocabulary to Crack IELTS Exam
Vocabulary is the backbone of a language. When it comes to speaking and writing, knowledge of the right words is a must. In the IELTS exam, vocabulary contributes up to 25% to your total score. It even plays a key role in IELTS listening and IELTS reading sections. In this blog post, you will learn the meaning of words defining different personality types.
Different personality defining words:
1. Egoist: Your attitude to life is simple – “me first.” Every decision you make is based on the answer to one question: “What’s in it for me?” You are an egoist if your selfishness, greed, and ruthless desire for self-advancement hurt other people.
2. Egotist: Now let’s see. You are boastful and full of yourself. The only thing that you talk about is yourself, what you think, what you have done, how good you are, how you would solve the problems of the world, etc.
3. Altruist: Let me help you. Your concern for others’ welfare is more important than your own. You are not bothered about your own interests.
4. Introvert: Leave me alone. You minutely examine your own thoughts, feelings, and actions. You worry too much about what other people think of you; how you look; what others think of what you said. You are bothered about others’ thoughts about you constantly.
5. Extrovert: Let’s do it together. You love to be outside. You love to socialize and hang out with people. You are usually the life of the party. You don’t bother about what others think of you.
6. Ambient: You are like most people. You have both introverted and extroverted qualities. Your interests are turned inward and outward in equal proportions.
7. Misanthrope: People are no damn good. You are cynical, suspicious, and hate everyone. Most of it you hate yourself but never admit it.
8. Misogynist: I don’t like women. In your past, you were deeply wounded by a woman, who could be your mother, girlfriend, teacher, perhaps.
9. Misogamist: You don’t believe in the institution of marriage. You prefer to live with your lover, or partner as an apartment mate, or house sharer rather than the legally wedded couple. You possibly believe that love is stronger than the judicial system. – a misogamist.
10. Ascetic: You believe in simple living and high thinking. You are not concerned about food, or other earthly pleasures. Complete abstinence is what you believe in.
Here are some examples to see the usage of these words
- My egoist husband will never care for my happiness, as long as he is happy.
- If you share bad news with an egotist person, he will be more concerned about how it affects them.
- Altruistic behavior is natural in many animals.
- Because of her husband’s introverted nature, she never invites anyone home.
- Lawyers have to be extroverts, otherwise, they will not find work.
- The old man was a misanthrope he kept the most ferocious dog at home to keep his neighbors at bay.
- She walked out of the class because of Prof’s misogynist teachings on women.
- He became a misogamist because his two marriages failed.
- He might be whatever now but back in the village, he lived an ascetic life.
Following is a small exercise to check your understanding
- Who lives a lonely, austere life?
- Whose interests are turned outward?
- Who is supremely selfish?
- Who hates people?
- Whose interests are turned both inward and outward?
- Who is incredibly conceited?
- Who is more interested in the welfare of others than in his own?
- Who hates women?
- Whose interests are turned inward?
- Who hates marriage?
