This means that all the IELTS British Council centers including the registration process, and results will be operated under the IELTS IDP brand. Earlier, there were two operating bodies for managing IELTS exams in India – British Council and IDP and now with the recent takeover of the counselorsBritish Council by IDP, everything related to IELTS will come under the IDP brand. With this change, a lot of agents have been raising concerns saying that this acquisition will give all the data to the IDP and their counsellors will approach the students for admission. But so far, their concerns have not been addressed by the authorities.
What changes can you expect with the IDP acquisition of IELTS in India?
Well, there won’t be any major change that you will witness as an IELTS taker in the overall process. The exam content, marking criteria, structure, and security will remain the same as before. The evident change that you might see will be in the re-branding of British Council centers to IDP, which will happen gradually. Other than that, you will have to go to the IDP registration portal from July 25 to book your IELTS exam as well as get the results.
Should this be a concern for those who have already appeared for IELTS under British Council?
Not at all! Test results issued by IELTS British Council are absolutely valid for 2 years from the date of issuance of results. Still, in case you would like to change the issuing authority on your result sheet before Aug 1, 2021, then you can contact the British Council team here. Or if you would like to change it after Aug 1, 2021, then you can contact the IDP team here.
Those who have already booked their IELTS tests under British Council
If you already have a current IELTS British Council booking for either a paper-based exam or a computer-based exam, the IDP team will contact you themselves and there might be a change in the test centers.
