About a month ago an article by the Regional Director for South Asia, Canada, and LATAM at IDP appeared in the education supplement of a widely circulated English daily. The writer had some sensible advice for persons aspiring to study abroad. Here’s a pointwise summary:

1. Prioritise college and University Credentials

In choosing the institution where you want to study, prioritize college and university credentials and the global performance of institutions over cheaper courses or higher chances of getting a student visa.

2. Remain alert to take advantage of all types of financial assistance and soft loans and scholarships.

For example: The government has waived Tax Collected at Source on education remittances made through loans from specified financial institutions; A well-known bank has announced collateral-free loans for studying abroad; Scholarships are available from many sources, including universities, colleges, host governments, local governments, and the private sector.

3. Select an educational consultant very carefully;

Recognize that you are going to be taking the consultant’s help for many vital tasks: identifying the institutions that most closely align with your career path, preparing admission applications and documents required to get a visa.

Before you sign up with anyone, shop around: find out how long the consultant has been in business, the consultant’s team size, national and international presence, and – most importantly – how many of the consultant’s clients got admission to institutions abroad and how many received their student visa.

4. Evaluate career choices beyond the traditional top picks:

Map your interests, natural abilities, and academic background and research what skills are going to be in demand by the time you complete your studies.

All these tips are useful but one of them stands out, namely …

Evaluate career choices in light of individual interest/ability & future demand.

A generation ago, choices were relatively few but well-defined. In the case of many youngsters, parents choose their careers. “Your grandfather was a lawyer. I am a lawyer. And you will be a lawyer too.” Proud parents declared, “I made one son a doctor, one son an engineer, and one son an MBA.”

Today, making a career choice is neither simple nor easy. Even if a son or daughter would meekly accept a parentally dictated career path, most parents today are completely clueless about 21st-century jobs.

Teachers? How much can they help? Even those few who try to keep up with advances in their field are simply not “out there” where fierce competition drives a relentless search for higher profit and bigger market share. Textbooks are obsolete by the time they are printed.

Given the speed at which the world of work is changing, 21st-century students know that they have to devote their greatest effort simply to keeping up with the career scene itself.

YUNO LEARNING wants to help. Since the question is a big one, we headed straight for Chat GPT, and here’s what we asked:

 Looking forward to 2030,

a)  Name the jobs in cutting-edge fields that will be looking for qualified recruits.

b) How much will employers pay for each of these jobs to attract suitable freshers?

Your answer should be an educated guess based on …

Emerging industry growth, labor market, and salary trends; Data from credible sources such as Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Burning Glass Technologies, PayScale, McKinsey, PwC, Deloitte, World Economic Forum, OECD, and the World Bank.

We received an answer that was too long to publish in full, so we organized and condensed the information to answer the core question:

What will be the in-demand jobs in 2030 and how much will these jobs pay?

Here’s the list. The occupations are listed by predicted pay at entry-level or junior positions, going from highest-paid jobs to lowest. It is interesting to note the range of entry-level salaries: for some jobs, there is not much difference between the lowest predicted salary and the highest; other jobs show a huge difference between the lowest and highest.

We hope that this helps you figure out where you fit in.
